I've reinstalled [[Mass Effect Legendary Edition]] and this time chosen to run as many mods as I can that improve it visually as much as possible and reduces the bugs still left over in the game. I don't want to change the baseline experience, as that is the original experience most of us know and love.
It was informed a whole generation of a kind of future we could possibly look forward to, and for me personally this was a second [[Halo]]. That game was the beginning of everything for me and [[Science Fiction]].
The sound design, the nostalgic music, the weapons, the armour, the fashion, the creature and character design, and don't even get me started on the ships. And make no mistake, this future if it was even remotely possible would be one of the most dangerous considering everything that was happening in the game and how many people paid for those events with their lives.
But let's face it, those of you reading this, and myself writing this, we haven't exactly had to live with the insane day to day some people have to live with, and they would do perfectly fine in the Mass Effect universe. In some parts of the world things are just as dangerous just to even step out of your home. If you can call your safe house, home.
But the idea of being able to hop on a ship and head to another planet for work, or living on a space station, or serve in the military on an Alliance vessel or to work at the Galactic United Nations equivalent known as The Citadel Council, is epic on all levels. The interactions between species, the technology that comes with the weapons and ships with Mass Effect generators not to mention the medical advancements that come with such technologies. The Illusive Man in the second game was constantly smoking cigarettes, more then likely as a stim for running so many large scale operations and it allowed him to think clearly and keep up everything he was attempting to do, but then something called '**medigel**' essentially heals his lungs back as if he had never smoked a day in his life.
Now I'm not endorsing doing anything that can destroy you because there will always be something available to save you. That is a waste of resources regardless of abundance. However, for someone like the Illusive Man and his capabilities, and due to his age, smoking was a habit from his younger days that stuck which allowed him to be able to think clearly, considering nicotine does behave as a cognitive enhancer.
Imagine chipping off or shaving a tiny granule of metal off of a large metal block, and then using magnets to accelerate that granule to near the speed of light because you can make even that granule's mass, zero. That is how Mass Effect project tile weapons work. There have been many thought experiments that have been calculated as to what would happen to grains of sand hitting the surface or atmosphere of our planet at the speed of light or faster. Something so small could end up with so much kinetic force due to the sheer speed you could propel it by removing it's mass.
Ships works the same way. Anti-gravity generators as well. Makes the use of fuel extremely efficient for propelling things forward and travelling across the galaxy.
Settling a brand new world, terraformed or otherwise and allowing humanity to spread out as much as possible. Seeing the edge of known space and new worlds, new colours of landscapes, plant life, creatures and how the environment interacts with everything based on where in space it is. If there was ever a way to combine No Mans Sky and Mass Effect I would probably never touch any game again due to how many things there would be to explore and build things. Even though Halo was a favourite before anything, Halo has a finite story due to how everything turned out with the Forerunners having literally genetically creating the Chief, Cortana and Halsey to ensure the future went the way it was supposed to. The Chief wasn't lucky. He was literally, designed and born for a purpose. Where do you go after that?
Even with the Reapers defeated in Mass Effect, they moved to another galaxy for exploration in Andromeda. Not to mention there is no way to know if all the reapers having been taken care of or not. However I guess Halo could do the same, all living species can finally go and remove every planet fully taken over by the Flood entirely, if they don't want to destroy all of life to make it happen, then all following games could be hunting it all down and cleansing the galaxy manually, which would then become more of a Helldivers style of game.
This is why I love Mass Effect, because even in this post about sharing why I love it so much, it triggers other signals of potential cool things that could happen within other game worlds, stories and perhaps even where humanity in this reality, could possibly end up going.
