# 2D Platformer
I'm starting simple. 2D platformer. While I don't have a nostalgic attachment to pixel games much like many others would have, there is a unique feeling about pixel art type games that calls to me.
It could be because it's simply easier to create then anything 3D. Or perhaps the decreased amount of mental effort required by removing multiple axis' to think about, allows me to think in more detail about the only 2 axis' available to me as a result of this; left to right, and up and down.
I think this is a kind of creative restriction that could allow a solo new developer getting into building a game, to be able to move as fast as possible to create something, but then still be able to put a lot more effort into creating something detailed, inspiring and full of story.
### 2 Directions
There are currently two concepts I have in mind for a game built in the 2D platformer pixel art style.
One will be a linear style game with multiple levels where there might be multiple ways to finish a mission involving a ship and having to work with its trajectory to land and take off, similar to the old school moon lander games.
The second, will be a purely handmade open world game with a whole universe on its own. Full of life, characters, locations, all abled to be revisited. Unless they, ya know, kick the bucket. Or worse! You accidentally kill them! Ya'll know how important characters are unkillable? Yeah screw that. I won't be doing that. You'll make your bed, and you'll restart the damn game after messing up in it.
You'll be able to walk past a table with items on it, and if you perform an aggressive action next to said table, the items will bounce, and it's close to the edge, it might fall off, break something valuable belonging to the owner of the place, and they will either kick you out or start a fight with you right then and there if you can't pay for it or worse, it cannot be replaced.
That, is the kind of detail I plan to work with. Because at the end of the day, I want a universe that feels lived in, instead of just another box with colourful random objects around the place.
